How To Set Your PayPal IPN

Follow

PayPal's IPN is what tells Spark Pay online stores that your customer's order has been paid for. This instant payment notification url needs to be set in your PayPal account.

After you log in, follow these instructions to set up your IPN:

  1. Click the My Account icon and select Profile and Settings
  2. Under Settings Click Instant Payment Notification Preferences in the Selling Preferences column.
  3. Click Choose IPN Settings to specify your IPN’s URL and activate the IPN.
  4. Specify the URL for your listener in the Notification URL field. Click Receive IPN messages (Enabled) to enable your IPN.
  5. Save your changes, the following screen appears.
  6. Click Back to Profile Summary to return to the Profile after activating your listener.

Is this a new setting? Seeing the date of this article being posted and the Paypal issues with SP leads me to believe this is a recent change or something that SP failed to advise that was needed.

Also, why wouldn't you use https:// for sending info?

Glad to see someone else was here recently, Clayton.

We've started seeing long messages added to 'admin_comments' that look like: PayPal reported reason for Pending status: AuthorizationPayPal IPN received ...." With a long string of data pertaining to the customer. I'm guessing this is what Paypal send and SP would be listening for.

Odd that we just started seeing this message appearing and never implemented the IPN system.

Clayton has a good point, why isn't this listening URL HTTPS?

No response from SP support or comments on this, no surprise.

I turned it on via Paypal, but have turned it back off as it was nothing more than an annoyance to have all the Paypal IPN message in the comments section and it doesn't appear to have any effect on the Paypal payment or order status.

That being said, SP still hasn't fixed all the Paypal problems with the Taxcloud.net issue being the latest SNAFU that they can't figure out.
